I have included this short reference to Exchange accounts merely to explain what would happen if you clicked on the Next button in the Add new email account dialog box above. I am not trying to suggest that doing so is worthwhile.

Before setting up an email account as an Exchange account for the first time, ensure that you have backed up any emails that remain on the server because several users have reported disruption from the changeover. To set up the email account as an Exchange account, click on the Next button in the Add new email account dialog box above. That’s it. No further setting up is required. If I do get any problems then I will change them.

After migration, the required pop3 server port entry does not change but the smtp server port entry should change to [see para 2. If I do get any problems then I will change the smtp port entry. You could choose to set up all your email accounts to use the same InBox or you could choose different folders.

Log in then click on the icon for account settings [the gearwheel] and select Options. Just set pop to enabled then decide whether or not you want email deleted from the server once it has been downloaded. This setting also exists within Outlook ‘s email settings [it is shown in the para 1. I do not know what happens if the settings are different. There was no warning email. One day I found that one of my outlook. I had never installed the Connector so I do not know any details about it.

I then logged out and returned to Outlook on my computer. The account then started working correctly. Given the contradictory information I found, I decided to stick with pop retrieval and to continue never putting any sensitive information in emails. Was this article helpful? This article is about using the pop method to retrieve email in Outlook Online accounts themselves are not pop or imap or Exchange [“EAS”].

I have included a brief reference to Exchange accounts [“EAS”] Towards the end of the article, I also start wittering on about imap email and about smartphone email because I always have those issues at the back of my mind when I am setting up Outlook If you have a suggestion for improving this Forum article then please post a comment below.

Setting an account up to use Exchange [“EAS”] allows synchronisation of many additional features such as calendars. Outlook can only handle a single Exchange account. To use more than one you would have to create a new profile and would have to switch between profiles to use different email accounts. I think this is too awkward for routine use. I believe that Outlook onwards can have multiple Exchange accounts.

There is guidance on setting up Exchange accounts in Outlook Set up email and Set up email on an Android phone or tablet – Office Support. As shown in paras 1. To remove emails requires special procedures. See Purge IMAP items marked for deletion – Office Help and note that purging them from the server also deletes local copies on your device[s]. The information provided in the [post-migration] Options section of the online Outlook.

The smtp settings do not change. I have found disputed claims that changing from pop to imap resets the server so all emails must be checked before any such change so that any copies left on the server are merely duplicates. Imap, on the other hand, uses secure internet connections [just as https internet addresses do].

However, I have also seen lots of online discussions referring to the security imap uses as being ineffective. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this article? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site.
